Monday, April 16, 2012 at Bar Boulud at 1900 Broadway, New York, New York

On Monday, April 16th, we had the privilege to explore virtually every great wine made by Bartolo Mascarello and his father between 1952 and 1971, including the unique opportunity in three vintages to compare the normale and the very rare riserva bottlings.

Like his contemporary Giovanni Conterno, the late Bartolo Mascarello was an icon. In fact, he was so famous and revered that it's sometimes forgotten that his Cantina Mascarello had for decades before him been every bit as admired, thanks to the consummate winemaking of his father Giulio.

All told, the legacy of wines left by Giulio and Bartolo Mascarello have few peers from the 20th century.

The tasting included the following wines:

1952   Cantina Mascarello Barolo Canubbi Riserva
1952   Cantina Mascarello Barolo
1954   Cantina Mascarello Barolo Riserva
1955   Cantina Mascarello Barolo Canubbi Riserva
1957   Cantina Mascarello Barolo
1958   Cantina Mascarello Barolo Canubbi Riserva
1958   Cantina Mascarello Barolo
1961   Cantina Mascarello Barolo Canubbi Riserva
1961   Cantina Mascarello Barolo
1964  Cantina Mascarello Barolo
1967  Cantina Mascarello Barolo Riserva
1970  Cantina Mascarello Barolo
1971   Cantina Mascarello Barolo

The wines were accompanied a 4-course menu created for this special evening.
