In March 2013, The Rare Wine Co. was delighted to organize a dinner featuring the sherries of Valdespino, Jerez's most historic and—in the opinion of many—greatest producer. The dinner coincided with The Rare Wine Co.'s honored appointment to be Valdespino's importer for California.

We were also honored to have Peter Liem (whose excellent book on Sherry with Jesús Barquín we highly recommend) and Jaime Gil (Export Director at Bodegas Valdespino) preside over the evening and lead attendees through some of Valdespino's finest wines.

Here's the menu and line-up of wines from the evening:

Philipponnat Non-Dosé

Gigante Beans, Bacalao, Caviar, Lemon, Crème Fraîche
Manzanilla Deliciosa
Manzanilla Deliciosa En Rama

Pacific Black Cod with Fried Garlic
Fino “Inocente”
Amontillado “Tio Diego”

Roasted Salmis of Squab and Spring Vegetables
Palo Cortado Viejo Calle Ponce
Palo Cortado VORS “Cardenal”

[pause]

Amontillado VORS “Coliseo”
Oloroso VORS Solera de “Su Majestad”

[pause]
