2010 Comm. G.B. Burlotto Barolo Monvigliero (OWC)

Since becoming Burlotto's winemaker in the mid-1990s, Fabio Alessandria has created the towering expression of Verduno's Monvigliero vineyard. He has done so using methods his mother passed down to him, including foot treading and a 60-day maceration on the skins. The result has been the most consistently aromatically distinct wine of Barolo.
In keeping with Burlotto tradition, Fabio makes no magnums of Monvigliero, but he does make a few 3-liter bottles for family, friends and favored clients. We have been honored to get a few each of these prizes each harvest, including in the great 2010 vintage.
Antonio Galloni rated the wine 94+ in 2014 but it has continued to develop and would surely merit a much higher score today.

“... a wine that demands the taster's full attention. Bright red berries, mint, spices and crushed rocks are some of the many notes that flow through to the chiseled finish. Hints of iron, savory herbs, tar and game add to this super-distinctive Barolo. (Drink between 2020-2040)”
